- Is Tasmania manageable with young kids?
- Very much so as a road trip. The pace is easy, distances between stops are manageable, and there's genuinely a lot for young children — wildlife, nature walks, fishing, farms. The Dove Lake circuit at Cradle Mountain is a good benchmark: our five-year-old did the full 6km without issue (with some motivational gummy bears along the way).
- How many days do you actually need?
- Nine days felt like a solid introduction but not quite enough — we were making choices every day. Two weeks would give you room to explore more of the national parks, visit Launceston properly, add MONA, and move at a slightly less packed pace. That said, even a week is absolutely worth it.
- What's the best time of year to visit?
- We went in late March to early April (early autumn) and the weather was mostly excellent — 12–26°C, mostly sunny, with very little rain except at Cradle Mountain. Summer (December–February) is peak season and warmer. Spring and autumn tend to offer quieter roads and very pleasant temperatures for hiking.
