Planning a Trip Like This

Is Happo-One in Hakuba good for skiing with young kids?
It's better suited to more confident or older kids. Ski schools are excellent, but the terrain right around the base lift is limited — once lessons finish, there isn't much easy skiing to do together as a family without crossing harder terrain. Tsugaike, a short shuttle ride away, is the more beginner- and family-friendly option.
Is Hakuba busy over Chinese New Year?
Less than we expected. Hakuba spans several connected resort areas with free shuttles between them, which seems to spread visitors out. Our longest lift queue all week was 15–20 minutes, and that was the exception rather than the rule.
Hakuba or Niseko for a family ski trip?
Both work well, but for different reasons. Niseko (Grand Hirafu) has strong snow reliability but gets expensive close to the lifts. Hakuba is easier to reach from Singapore via Tokyo and the Shinkansen, has more variety across its resort areas, and felt better value for a family-sized lodge room.
